Can I have your attention, please? I know that many of you are considering taking a gap year. Well, I believe that a gap year can be very beneficial if you spend the time productively,
for example by doing volunteering work. If you’re passionate about sport and a healthy
lifestyle and love working with kids, here is a project just for you – taking care of children in
Samoa. The project runs all year round, and you can join at any moment. The typical length
of time a volunteer spends in Samoa is six months, but a shorter stay is also possible.
The minimum period we require is three weeks. You don’t need any professional childcare
experience or qualifications. We will provide you with training, workshops and resources.
Basically, you’ll work at local care centres or kindergartens, where you will help teachers in
their daily work by engaging in different activities like organizing sports. In Samoa, some
diseases like diabetes are on the rise. This is mainly caused by unhealthy diets and a lack of
exercise. So, you’ll also be responsible for teaching children how to prepare healthy meals,
so that they can share their knowledge with older family members. You won’t have to stay at
hostels or hotels because we will arrange for you to live with a host family. They will welcome
you into their home and you will have the chance to learn local customs and culture.
Classes usually start at around 8.30 a.m. You cannot expect your host family to drive you to
work in their car so you’ll have to use public transport, which is safe and reliable. In your free
time you can meet up with other volunteers and explore the beautiful Samoan Islands. Now,
are there any questions?
